SUMMARY:Techniques and Skills for Beautiful Drawing: Chalkboards and Main Lesson Books through the Grades
DESCRIPTION:Summer Series 2016  workshop with instructor Steve Simonak of Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School \nProfessional development for Waldorf teachers and homeschooling parents  \nJuly 8 update: Only 1 space remaining! \nIn this workshop\, grades 1-8 class and subject teachers will receive instruction in the basics of how to create beautiful chalkboard drawings and how to approach Main Lesson book drawings across the Waldorf lower and middle school curricula. Regardless of your artistic background\, you’ll leave with valuable skills\, new-found confidence\, and ideas for projects to bring to your class. \nUsing curricular themes\, we will cover: \n\nUseful techniques for drawing with chalk\nApplying perspective drawing techniques to illustrations\nEmploying geometry and proportion\nDrawing the human figure\nMethods for teaching children how to lay out a page\n\nNOTE: This workshop is taught with the expectation that you have a background in Waldorf Education.  \n  \nInstructor \nSteve Simonak is currently teaching eighth grade at Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School (NY)\, where he has been a class and high school teacher since 1991. While at Hawthorne Valley\, he has also taught middle school math and arts\, served as the Council of Teachers chairperson\, literary magazine advisor\, girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball teams coach\, and established the Hawthorne Valley Surveying Practicum. Steve\, who holds a BFA in Painting from Pratt Institute\, received his Waldorf Teaching Certificate from the Alkion Center (where he has been a guest teacher) and has training in Foundation Studies from Antioch. Before coming to Hawthorne Valley\, Steve was a teacher in New York City. His hobbies include mapmaking and surveying\, New York State history\, medieval Christian painting\, gardening\,and birdwatching. \nStudents who took an art course with Steve in summer 2015 had this to say: \n~ Steve (brought) such a depth of knowledge and technique to this class. \n~ His love for art is evident in his copious\, gorgeous examples and his delivery of content. \n~ Steve was wonderful. His rapport with his pupils and deep\, extensive knowledge and experience was a true gift to receive. \n~ Steve is a master teacher. He has great ideas and share his knowledge readily and clearly. \n~ Really enjoyed the variety of projects; also\, many great insights about materials\, resources\, and logistics. \n~ Terrific! \nYour workshop also includes singing with Patti Regan of Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School (MA) and eurythmy with Brigida Baldszun. \n  \nWorkshop Schedule\nAll day Thursday starting 8-8:30am\, through 3:30pm Friday \n  \nWorkshop Fee\n$260 (includes all materials and non-refundable $25 registration fee).
