SUMMARY:Learning to Use Financial Reporting: A Tool for Leading Strategically and Practically
DESCRIPTION:An online workshop for administrators\, Board members\, and committee chairs \nUnderstanding financial reporting is essential in order for administrators and other decision-makers to work effectively on issues that affect their school’s bottom line. But how do you acquire this understanding? What should you be looking for when reading a financial report? How do you interpret the data\, and how can you use this information in your work? This workshop will give school leaders the tools necessary for recognizing and exploring financial trends\, strategies for how to use financial reporting in their informed decision-making\, and the confidence they need to partner successfully with their business office. \nAmong the topics we will cover are: \nTuition & Cash Flow \nAs the largest revenue stream for our schools\, understanding the impact of tuition increases\, levels of financial assistance\, and uncollectible balances are mission critical. We will explore the tools available to schools of all sizes to help manage tuition\, what reporting capabilities are important\, and what reports school leadership should be receiving and understanding. And since a well-managed\, one-sheet cash flow report can capture and forecast points requiring action\, we will review this document and discuss what data a school leader should be monitoring. \nHuman Conditions \nOur work will include discussion regarding benefits\, onboarding\, professional development\, and outboarding. We will explore which financial levers impact faculty and staff living wages and the many costs involved in replacing/hiring employees. We will consider the positive and budget-required elements of professional development\, and discuss the importance of having succession plans in place to avoid large disruptions in our schools. \nOutward Facing Matters (Development\, Alumni\, Surrounding Community).  \nThe business of donations is changing\, as many donors are seeking impact from their gifts. Together we will examine our current development work and what may be needed\, plus possible situations for a capital campaign and for attracting new donors. The factors that indicate when to increase staff to perform this work will also be discussed. Additionally\, we will consider relationship management with alumni and our larger community\, which are important factors in all our work. \nNote: If possible\, we strongly encourage participants watch the three financial primers on the AWSNA community hub before attending this event. However\, you will gain a lot from the workshop even without this background prep. \n\n\nFacilitator \nDenese Giordano is a seasoned school administration professional who is currently a consultant and a former ANA coordinator for AWSNA’s mid-Atlantic region. Denese has been in the workforce for well over four decades\, including 35+ years spent working with mission-based organizations in the non-profit independent school realm\, honing her skills in program development\, budget strategies\, and long-term planning. She specializes in establishing healthy systems in finance\, human resources\, administrative operations\, and outreach and development efforts. A graduate of Kenyon College\, Denese completed the Foundation Studies Course at The Waldorf School of Garden City\, the school from which her four daughters graduated\, providing her a parent’s (client) perspective and gratitude for Waldorf education. \n  \nThis workshop will be presented over Zoom and will not be recorded. \nSchedule \nFriday\, October 14: 7:30pm-9pm ET\nSaturday\, October 15: 10am-11:30am ET and 12:30pm-2 pm ET \nCost \n$165 includes non-refundable $25 registration fee \nDiscounts \nFree to current Sunbridge program students in good standing\n15% off for Sunbridge program graduates\n15% off for schools sending two or more registrants\n25% off for payment made in Canadian dollars \nDiscount codes will appear on your registration form. Other than CAD\, discounts may not be combined. \n  \n\n  \n  \nQuestions?\nPlease contact Barbara Vitale\, admissions and summer coordinator\, at info@sunbridge.edu or 845-425-0055 x20 \n  \nSunbridge reserves the right to make faculty substitutions when necessary.

SUMMARY:Here and Now: Reevaluating the Needs of Parents and Young Children in Early Childhood Settings
DESCRIPTION:This workshop for Waldorf early childhood educators\, with a special focus on birth-three\, takes place online. \nFor the past two-and-a-half years\, caregivers and parents of very young children have been reckoning with a new world—a world filled with constant diligence\, fear\, sudden and unexpected change\, and creative parenting and schooling that has required deep amounts of flexibility on the part of us all. \nNow\, as we slowly emerge from the world of the pandemic and seek to find our footing amidst layers of disruption from the status quo\, the question is: Where do we go from here? How do we re-establish the calm and predictable assurance of rhythm? Which tools\, resources\, and principles from this recent time—as well as from the pre-pandemic past—can we hang onto\, and which need to be re-imagined? How can we honor the effects of the current state of the world that our children have already come to know (or have ever known) while offering them more solid ground from which to grow? \nIn this virtual workshop we will explore the needs of caregivers\, parents\, and young children in today’s early childhood settings\, and share strategies\, tools\, and ideas for going forward. \n  \nFacilitator \nAnjum Mir has been supporting parents in establishing healthy home rhythms for over 20 years. Her teaching experience has taken her from public and private school to Waldorf education\, which she discovered while looking for an educational system that honored the development and spiritual well-being of her first child. \nCurrently\, Anjum\, a mother of four\, works in pedagogical administration and teaches parent-child classes at the Westside Waldorf School in Los Angeles; offers prenatal\, infant\, and toddler-focused workshops and seminars; and holds parenting classes for parents of children through middle school. She is on the board of WECAN and several other education-focused organizations and is involved in teacher education and training. \n  \nSCHEDULE\n\nSaturday\, October 29\nZoom Sessions: 10am-3pm (Eastern Time) includes instructional time and break time \n\nCOST AND REGISTRATION \n$165 including $25 non-refundable registration fee \nDiscount options \n\nVolume discount: 15% off for schools sending more than one participant\nSunbridge alumni discount: 15% off for Sunbridge program graduates\nSunbridge student discount: Free to students currently enrolled in a Sunbridge teacher education program and in good standing\nPayments made in Canadian dollars: 25% off\n\nDiscount codes will appear on your registration form.
