SUMMARY:Subject Teachers Conference: Pedagogical Foundations and Practical Aspects of Waldorf Subject Teaching
DESCRIPTION:Online registration is open until noon on Friday. We will be accepting walk-ins (walk-in fee is $290\, payable by cash\, credit card\, or check). Registration takes place starting at 6:30pm in the Main House Conference Room. (Directions here.) \nA conference for subject teachers\, faculty chairs\, teachers-in-training\, and school leadership personnel (class teachers also welcome!). \nWith Jana Hawley of Sunbridge Institute and Green Meadow Waldorf School\, Mary Lynn Hetsko of NYC’s Rudolf Steiner School\, Yolanda Navarro of the Brooklyn Waldorf School\, and Patti Regan of Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School. \nSubject teachers play an essential role in the life of every Waldorf school—and in the experience of every Waldorf student.  Bringing their gifts and expertise in their area of specialization\, subject teachers complete the breadth and depth of the Waldorf curriculum. In this inaugural conference\, subject teachers from across all subject areas will convene to learn about and share with one another the challenges and opportunities inherent to subject teaching. \nThrough presentation\, study\, and breakout group work (in discussions along pedagogical topic lines\, as well as individual subject areas)\, we will cover such issues as: \n\nWorking in multiple grades\nClassroom management\nDeveloping a subject curriculum across the grades\nKeeping your lessons fresh every year\nLesson planning and scheduling\nColleagueship and your role in the life of the school\nTraining and other resources\n\nFacilitators: \n\nJana Hawley (Music) is director of Sunbridge’s Elementary Teacher Education program and the Institute’s intensives in Elementary Music and Grades 1-12 World Language teaching. In addition to being on the Sunbridge faculty since 2002\, since 2006 Jana has also been on the faculty of Green Meadow Waldorf School\, where she has served as a class teacher\, music teacher\, and a member of the Teacher Development Committee; she currently teaches singing in Green Meadow’s Lower School and serves as Lower School Chair and a member of the Collegium Committee. Previously\, Jana spent 14 years on the faculty of the Whidbey Island Waldorf School\, teaching music and main lessons\, and has also been a visiting faculty member at several Waldorf teacher training institutes in the US\, as well as abroad. She earned her BFA in Music from Cornish College of the Arts\, Seattle\, WA\, and her MSEd in Waldorf Elementary Teacher Education from Sunbridge College. \n  \nMary Lynn Hetsko (Handwork) is the lower school handwork teacher at NYC’s Rudolf Steiner School\, where she has been a member of the faculty since 2009; she also sits on their College of Teachers. Prior to her work at the Steiner School\, she taught handwork at Green Meadow Waldorf School from 2005-2009 and has also led handwork workshops for the Fiber Craft Studio and at AWSNA conferences. Mary Lynn attended Ramapo College and holds a certificate in Applied Arts from Sunbridge College. \n  \nYolanda Navarro (World Language) mentors the Spanish language teacher at the Brooklyn Waldorf School\, a position she has held since 2015. From 2010-15 she was the school’s Spanish teacher and world language curriculum designer\, and for two years prior served as a class teacher. Since 2016\, Yolanda has also been an education consultant at Escola Waldorf Rudolf Steiner in São Paulo\, Brazil\, leading the world languages curriculum design and coaching and mentoring a team of twelve teachers from the world languages department. \n  \nPatti Regan (Eurythmy) teaches eurythmy throughout the kindergarten and grades at the Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School; she also teaches music in Sunbridge’s Summer Series courses. Patti formerly taught music at Green Meadow Waldorf School. She holds a certificate from Eurythmy Spring Valley. \n  \n  \n  \nSchedule\nFriday\, April 6: Doors open at 6:30pm for check-in registration. Please arrive with enough time to register and get settled. First session begins promptly at 7 and runs until 9. \nSaturday\, April 7: Conference runs 8:30am-5pm with time for breaks and lunch\n \nHousing \nCampus housing is reserved directly through Threefold Educational Center. \nCost\n \n$275 (includes breakfast\, lunch\, and mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks on Saturday\, and a $25 non-refundable registration fee). \nDiscounts \nFor every 5 attendees it registers\, a school may send a 6th attendee for free (the 6th registration cost will be rebated after the conference takes place). Current Sunbridge program students receive a 30% discount and Sunbridge program alumni receive a 15% discount; discount codes will appear on your registration form or contact Penelope Voss (below) for assistance. (Only one discount option may be applied.) \nRegistration \nOnline registration is open through noon on Friday\, April 6. If you haven’t registered online and still wish to attend\, you may do so as a walk-in registration (walk-in cost is $290).
