SUMMARY:Four Core Elements of Successful Leadership
DESCRIPTION:A two-part\, online workshop for decision-makers—including administrators\, directors\, board and committee members\, and faculty and section chairs—working in Waldorf schools or other workplace settings \n  \nInspiring\, Guiding\, Coaching\, and Intervening:  \nThese four core skills and tasks—what we need to become proficient in as leaders—are the focus of our latest Collaborative Leadership workshop. Over two weekends and through presentation\, large and small group discussion\, sharing\, and journaling\, under the direction of facilitators Jessica Heffernan Ziegler and Joachim Ziegler\, PhD\, in this workshop we will: \n\nDefine these leadership elements\, both as skill sets and tasks\, and illuminate their importance and the role each plays as we carry out our roles as leaders\nExplore our own level of comfort with each element\nGain an initial understanding of what types of situations call for which skill\, and the necessity to adapt our approach to most effectively meet that person or situation\nImprove our own competencies and capacities in all four skills and tasks\n\nWhile all four leadership elements will be explored over the course of the workshop\, the element of intervening—often the most difficult task for us and other leaders in our schools—will be the primary focus of our second weekend. Intervening depends just as much on our organization’s governance structure (both formal and\, especially\, informal) and clarity of roles and responsibilities (methods of accountability) as it does on our understanding of our mandated roles and responsibilities. We will be examining this understanding\, as well as our ability to imbue our individual roles and responsibilities with our own authentic leadership posture. \nWe invite you to join us for another eye-opening\, informative\, and highly practical Collaborative Leadership experience. \n  \nFacilitators \nJoachim Ziegler\, PhD\, has been working in the fields of organizational development and human resources development since 1994. A partner in MIRA Companions for Development\, an international consulting group\, Joachim’s current list of American and international clients encompasses the banking\, pharmaceutical\, retail\, and manufacturing sectors\, as well as anthroposophical institutions and Waldorf schools. Joachim is a member of the College of Social Sciences Section at the Goetheanum and the international Association for Social Development and has taught at the University of Muenster and at Germany’s first private university in Herdecke. He holds an MA in adult education and a PhD in medical education. \nJessica Heffernan Ziegler has been the executive director of Sunbridge Institute since 2008. Her professional focus on leadership skills\, governance issues\, and personnel development are utilized both in her executive director role and in her work as co-instructor of Sunbridge’s Collaborative Leadership course and related workshops; she also teaches Waldorf school administration in Sunbridge’s Waldorf Early Childhood Teacher Education program and previously taught in Sunbridge College’s Administration and Biography programs. Jessica is a partner in MIRA Companions for Development\, an international consulting group\, and works as an executive coach and organizational development consultant for Waldorf administrators and teachers and other professionals in diverse institutions and schools in both the US and Germany. She served as the first administrator and as a board member at a Waldorf school she co-founded in Everswinkel\, Germany\, and has sat on many other boards\, including her current role as trustee for AWSNA\, for which she is also an active committee member and workshop presenter. Jessica holds a BS in business management and did her biography training with Karl-Heinz Finke and her executive coach training with SECA International. \n  \nSchedule \nThis workshop takes place in Zoom sessions on the following dates/times: \nFriday\, January 10: 7:00 pm-8:30 pm Eastern (NY) Time\nSaturday\, January 11: 10:30 am-12:00 pm and 12:30 pm-2:00 pm Eastern (NY) Time \nFriday\, February 7: 7:00 pm-8:30 pm Eastern (NY) Time \nSaturday\, February 8: 10:30 am-12:00 pm and 12:30 pm-2:00 pm Eastern (NY) Time  \nCost  \nEarly Bird (Register by January 4 and save $25!): $350\nRegular (Register after January 4): $375\nCost includes a $25 non-refundable registration fee\nNOTE: This workshop is presented in its entirety over the course of two weekends; individual dates/sessions may not be signed up for separately. Sessions will not be recorded\, and refunds will not be issued for sessions not attended. DESCRIPTION:Open to students of education and especially relevant for new and prospective Waldorf community members (teachers\, parents and grandparents\, staffers\, and board members) \nOur lively and informative Waldorf Weekend workshop is designed to provide an experiential survey of the basis and basics of Waldorf education. In addition to exploring the Waldorf curriculum across the grades\, your workshop includes a discussion of Rudolf Steiner’s insights in human development and a look into the anthroposophical underpinnings of the Waldorf impulse. You’ll enjoy hands-on artistic activities and there’ll be plenty of time for questions and answers. Our Waldorf Weekends are a most memorable—and fun!—learning experience. \nThis workshop takes place in person.  \n  \nPresenters \nMeggan Gill ’10 became Sunbridge’s director of education and organizational culture in 2021 and is also a member of the Sunbridge teacher education faculty. Her teaching experience includes serving as lead toddler teacher at City of Lakes Waldorf School from 2020-21 and\, from 2009 to 2020\, serving on the faculty of the Brooklyn Waldorf School where she led parent-and-child and kindergarten classes and was active on the Faculty Council. Prior to joining BWS\, Meggan taught kindergarten at the Olympia Waldorf School and parent-and-child and nursery classes at the New Amsterdam School. Meggan earned her undergraduate degree in health sciences from The Evergreen State College\, her MEd in curriculum and instruction from SUNY Empire State\, and her certificate in Waldorf early childhood education from Sunbridge. \n\n\n \nElizabeth Hall is a class teacher at Green Meadow Waldorf School where she has been on the faculty since 2006 and is a member of the school’s Collegium and the Teacher Development Committee. The information was communicated in a clear way\, and I feel like I have a much deeper understanding of what it means to look at the world through the Waldorf lens.\n~ It was excellent. The instructors were extremely knowledgeable.\n~ The weekend was outstanding!
