SUMMARY:Storytelling through the Grades: Supporting a Healthy Social Life in the Classroom
DESCRIPTION:Summer Series 2016 course with instructor Nancy Mellon (Healing Story) \nProfessional development for Waldorf teachers and homeschooling parents \nStorytelling is used extensively throughout the Waldorf grades to convey curriculum content. But how can teachers also use this tool to address the social life of the classroom? This course\, led by a longtime storyteller and Waldorf consultant\, draws upon the grades 1-8 curriculum to explore the use of storytelling in supporting the developmental needs of school-aged children and the social fabric of the class. Participants will be guided in how to create their own stories to address a broad variety of social issues and themes. \nIn this course\, you will: \n\nDiscover how the process of telling stories can artfully address and transform a myriad of social challenges in and around the classroom\nLearn how to adapt stories from across the Waldorf curriculum\nExplore how to develop imagination and intuition\, and use personal anecdotes\, in creating stories that confidently support a healthy social life\nPractice skills of the dynamic storyteller for storytelling that meets the moment\n\nNOTE: This course is taught with the expectation that you have a background in Waldorf Education.  \n(Should you wish to further expand your storytelling experience with Nancy Mellon\, you may choose to register also for Storytelling as Antidote for the Digital Dilemma\, our 2-day workshop held immediately following your course.) \n  \nInstructor \nNancy Mellon\, MA\, is an elder in the global storytelling renaissance. A psychotherapist\, mentor\, and author (Storytelling with Children\, Storytelling and the Art of Imagination\, Body Eloquence)\, for thirty years she has awakened the goodness\, truth\, and beauty of the spoken and written word. Nancy teaches widely in the US and abroad\, following the path of storytelling deep into the physiological processes of the human body and pioneering new awareness of the relationship between language\, imagination\, and well-being. She has been connected with the Waldorf movement since 1976. Each day includes a balanced mix of content-based work\, artistic work\, and discussions.
