Melissa grew up in New York City and attended the Rudolf Steiner School from kindergarten through 12th grade. At Housatonic Valley she has held virtually every position\, from Early Childhood and Grades teacher to Administrator\, Enrollment Director\, and College and Board member. Melissa has attended and led anthroposophical classes and study groups for over twenty years. She currently serves as a pedagogical mentor for students in Sunbridge’s Waldorf Elementary Teacher Education program. She is also a professional editor and proofreader\, and the mother of a grown son. \nSchedule\nMonday\, June 26: Registration opens at 8am and concludes by 8:30am; Classes run 8:30am-5:30pm\nTuesday\, June 27: Classes run 8:30am-5:30pm\nAn hour is given for lunch\, with shorter breaks for morning and afternoon snacks \nFee\n$335 (includes all materials and non-refundable $45 registration fee). SUMMARY:Eurythmy and the Growing Child
DESCRIPTION:Open to all but especially relevant for Waldorf teachers and parents \nEurythmy is essential in order for Waldorf Education to fully serve the child. But what is eurythmy? What does it actually do for the child? How does it fit into the Waldorf curriculum\, and what is its contribution and impact? \nIn this highly experiential workshop\, you will deepen your understanding of why this art form is so essential to the Waldorf pedagogy\, and experience for yourself elements of the eurythmy curriculum from kindergarten across the grades. \nThrough discussion and activity you will: \n– Discover what eurythmy reveals about human development\n– Work your way through the development of the child by means of exercises appropriate to each developmental phase\n– See how the Waldorf curriculum comes to life through movement and gesture\n– Learn about the interplay between eurythmy and academic experiences\n– Acquire the language and understanding to talk about eurythmy to Waldorf parents in a valuable way\n– Work\, play\, laugh\, and have fun! \nEurythmy and the Growing Child is designed as both a stand-alone as well as a means of enhancing your experience in another Sunbridge Summer Series 2017 offering. \nInstructor Laura Radefeld teaches grades 8-12 eurythmy at Green Meadow Waldorf School (NY)\, where she has been a member of the faculty since 2010 and also sits on the Collegium and the Curriculum Development Committee.
