SUMMARY:HAWI: Building Reciprocal Relationships With Our Indigenous Communities
DESCRIPTION: A workshop series for teachers and administrators to gain new perspectives\, strategies\, and frameworks for creating reciprocal classroom and school relationships with their local indigenous communities \nPresented by HAWI\, a consulting firm based in the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory (Ontario\, Canada)\, and through a collaborative inquiry approach that includes reflective dialogue\, sharing\, and learning\, this workshop series of three interrelated\, yet independent\, weekend sessions is designed to grow awareness\, develop skill-sets\, and provide curricula resources for Waldorf teachers and schools. The goal is to deepen our relationship to local indigenous communities and to promote indigenous reconciliation and inclusion. \nSeries Topics \nSession 1 (November 7-8) \n\nReciprocal Relationships: Implementing genuine\, action-based\, inclusion work\nMother Earth: Building connections to the local territory and our relationship to the Earth; creating Living Territory Acknowledgements\n\nSession 2 (January 16-17) \n\nMaterial Culture: Exploring the use and display of particular artifacts and cultural items\nCreating Culturally Safe Spaces: Putting care and intention into creating spaces that are warm\, safe\, and inclusive\n\nCOMING UP: Session 3 (March 6-7) \n\nFood & Sustenance (or All That Nourishes or Sustains Us): Practical implementations for classrooms and schools\nClosing the Inquiry and Next Steps\n\nDon’t miss this special opportunity to acquire an understanding of the priorities and foundations for working with your area’s indigenous culture in a respectful and reciprocal manner. \n  \nInstructors \nTekonwanyahé:sen Stacy Hill\, an indigenous educator and leader\, is a member of the Wakenyahten / Turtle Clan of the Kanyen’kehaka / Mohawk Nation of the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. Stacy has been learning about and exploring Waldorf education since 2005 and has over twenty years of experience working in multiple educational environments\, from babes-in-arms to post-secondary levels. Among the many roles she has held over the years are serving as co-founder\, kindergarten teacher\, administrative chair\, leadership circle member\, and parent at Skaronhyase’ko:wa – The Everlasting Tree School in Ontario. Since her youth\, Stacy has been actively involved in her community\, initiating programs and contributing her innovative ideas. She holds a BA\, a B.Ed\, a B.A.Ed and is a Year 1 graduate of Kanyen’keha (Mohawk language) at Onkwawenna Kentyohkwa. \nChandra Maracle\, co-owner and lead consultant of HAWI\, is a member of the Mohawk Nation. Chandra has an extensive background in nutrition\, wellness\, education\, and community. She has contributed to initiatives like the Haudenosaunee Food Guide and co-founded the Skaronhyase’ko:wa – Everlasting Tree School\, where she developed the school’s nutrition program. Chandra\, who is a Waldorf parent and a longtime student of anthroposophy\, holds numerous certifications\, including in eating psychology\, Reiki\, and yoga.
