Jane Swain is the associate director of Sophia’s Hearth Family Center’s early childhood training course, “The Child and Family in the First Three Years.” She has been an adult educator for 15 years and is certified by the New Hampshire Child Development Bureau as an Early Childhood Master Professional. Jane has a private practice in the Keene, NH area, has been a physical therapist for 30 years, and is a registered somatic movement therapist. She taught movement education for five years in grades one through three at the Monadnock Waldorf School and has provided classroom consultations for preschool and grade school ages for many years.
She is particularly interested in the primitive reflexes, and is currently creating a DVD with Jaimen McMillan on a Spacial Dynamics® approach to integration of the primitive reflexes.
Jane has published articles on early childhood motor development in various journals such as Research Bulletin and Star Weavings and also in WECAN publications such as A Warm and Gentle Welcome: Nurturing Children from Birth to Age Three and Gateways. She has a BS in Zoology from Iowa State University and a Certificate in Physical Therapy from the University of Iowa. She is a graduate of the Level III Spacial Dynamics® training program and is certified in Bothmer Gymnastics®, Sensory Integration Praxis testing, and in Bobath/Neurodevelopmental Treatment for children with Cerebral Palsy and other neuromotor disorders. She has also studied best practices for infant and child development at the Pikler Institute in Budapest, Hungary.
