Waldorf Weekend: Foundations and Fundamentals of Waldorf Education from Early Childhood through High School

Friday, January 26, 2024 - Saturday, January 27, 2024

Open to students of education and especially relevant for new and prospective Waldorf community members (teachers, parents and grandparents, staffers, and board members).

Our lively and informative Waldorf Weekend workshop is designed to provide an experiential survey of the basis and basics of Waldorf education. In addition to exploring the Waldorf curriculum across the grades, your workshop includes a discussion of Rudolf Steiner’s insights in human development and a look into the anthroposophical underpinnings of the Waldorf impulse. You’ll enjoy hands-on artistic activities and there’ll be plenty of time for questions and answers. Our Waldorf Weekends are a most memorable—and fun!—learning experience.

This workshop takes place in person.

Presenters

Meggan Gill ’10 became Sunbridge’s director of education and organizational culture in 2021 and is also a member of the Sunbridge teacher education faculty. A trained Waldorf early childhood educator and a specialist in diversity, equity, and inclusion, Meggan is also a member of Alma Partners and is active in WECAN and AWSNA. Her teaching experience includes serving as lead toddler teacher at City of Lakes Waldorf School from 2020-21 and, from 2009 to 2020, serving on the faculty of the Brooklyn Waldorf School where she led parent-and-child and kindergarten classes and was active on the Faculty Council. Prior to joining BWS, Meggan taught kindergarten at the Olympia Waldorf School and parent-and-child and nursery classes at the New Amsterdam School. Meggan earned her undergraduate degree in health sciences from The Evergreen State College and her certificate in Waldorf early childhood education from Sunbridge.

Winnie Stern ’14 is director of Sunbridge’s Elementary Teacher Education program. She is also currently a Green Meadow Waldorf High School history teacher, after having taken a class of Green Meadow students from first through eighth grade as class teacher. A former substitute teacher, Winnie initially became interested in exploring the foundations and goals of education through a philosophical lens, and discovered Waldorf education while seeking to answer the question “What kind of education helps to create a happy and healthy human being?” She holds a double-major BA in philosophy and education from Brooklyn College, an MA in philosophy and education from Columbia University Teachers College, a NYS teaching license in grades 1-6 education, and her Waldorf teacher certification from Sunbridge Institute.

~ It was excellent. The instructors were extremely knowledgeable.

~ The weekend was outstanding! I was deeply inspired, both as a teacher and as a human being.
~ Highly informed, warm-hearted facilitators with a deep concern for the group’s understanding and experience.
~ This was one of the single most wonderful weekends in my life. I came with the intention of learning more about Waldorf education. I am leaving with a feeling of a shifting of my soul.
