50th Anniversary

SBI - 50th Anniversary Weekend Conference Save-the-Date Postcard (Final 4x6)-1On August 28, 1967, in Detroit, Mich., ten faculty members and ten students came together in a simple ceremony to mark the dedication of the Waldorf Institute, a new institution offering Waldorf teacher education and foundation studies. The brainchild of Werner Glas (pictured here in a Michigan newspaper clipping from 1979), the Waldorf Institute—which relocated in 1986 to the Threefold community in Spring Valley (now Chestnut Ridge), New York, was chartered in 1991 as Sunbridge College and later reorganized as Sunbridge Institute—would come to have a far-reaching effect on Waldorf Education, sending forth graduates to found, lead, and teach at countless Waldorf schools and related organizations and initiatives throughout the world.

On Friday evening, November 10, and all-day Saturday, November 11, 2017, Sunbridge will mark our half-century milestone and legacy as North America’s oldest Waldorf teacher education institute by holding a 50th Anniversary Weekend Conference. This Weekend Conference will bring together individuals from throughout our many years, as well as educators, artists and innovators working within a range of Waldorf-related fields today, to participate in a program of events that will pay tribute to our past, explore and celebrate the state of Waldorf Education today, and look ahead to the future of the Waldorf movement.

A number of noted individuals with deep connections to Sunbridge from across the decades who are serving as members of the 50th Anniversary Honorary Committee will be joining our presenters, keynote address speaker, panelists and workshop leaders on this special weekend. Whether you are a member of the Waldorf Institute/Sunbridge community interested in engaging in great activities while reconnecting with former classmates and instructors, a Waldorf educator looking to attend what is serving as our 2017 teachers conference, or simply a friend and advocate of Waldorf Education, we welcome you to take part in our 50th Anniversary Weekend Conference in any or all of these ways:

  • Purchase tickets to join us on November 10-11. We are keeping costs very minimal in order to ensure as many people as possible are able to participate in this weekend.
